In Office Session with Rebecca Hay Designs

FOR THIS SESSION WITH REBECCA HAY WE DECIDED TO TAKE OVER THEIR OFFICE FOR THE AFTERNOON!

In previous shoots (here and here) we’ve met Rebecca and her team on location and have shot her at the properties she’s worked on, but this time we switched things up did an in-office/at work session! Rebecca wanted these photos to reflect their day-to-day activities (team meeting, running through drafts, answering emails, etc.) and overall their office culture.

Their studio is quite bright but when we were in the boardroom (first group of photos) we weren’t getting enough light as we’d like so we added in a soft flash on the other side of the window. We mixed these clean, crisp, shots with naturally lit photos (pushed in post of course) with a low depth of field so they have the option of both styles to use!

Rebecca is so naturally radiant in front of the camera it always feels so easy that our biggest hurdle with these sessions is trying to pack in as many outfit changes as we can so that they can use the photos for as many posts, programs, blogging, etc. as possible.

President-Elect, Morgan Hoffarth, for the RNAO

AFTER ALL OF THESE YEARS OF SHOOTING FOR THE RNAO WE FINALLY GOT TO MEET THEIR TEAM IN PERSON!

We normally shoot for their in house magazine, Registered Nurse Journal, and are sent out on assignments with other nurses so, we recently realized that we haven’t actually met their team in person yet! When they gave us a call to shoot their new president-elect, Morgan, at their office no less we were so excited to finally meet everyone!

To no surprise their team is as wonderful as we’ve always known them to be, and Morgan more specifically was so personable and easy to photograph (despite how weird it feels, we know that feeling!) Morgan needed new headshots to accompany her new position and we were aiming for 4 final images meaning we shot a lot of different set ups and outfits for her to select!

Before our shoot we spent a bit of time around the office location scouting and testing; we lucked on having a good weather day so it was easy for us to hang outside and get some environmental portraits. We took over a small portion of an upstairs foyer and set up a couple of backdrop options for the classic, clean, portrait look as well, all shot with natural light (our favourite)!

In our world a good problem to have is having too many good options so after we sent this gallery out and heard those words back we were thrilled!

Imagine Canada Summer Headshots

A FUN PART OF WORKING WITH THE SAME COMPANY OVER AND OVER AGAIN IS BEING ABLE TO BETTER ACQUAINT OURSELVES WITH THEIR STAFF

We go into Imagine Canada to shoot their staff headshots (for new staff and anyone who wants an update) a couple of times a year and every time we shoot it feels like we’re getting better and better; better at our workflow with them (as they’re generally quite pressed for time) better with recognizing who’s who, and even better with knowing how comfortable they are in front of the camera.

For these photos we actually went to their HQ to shoot and given that it was such a beautiful day out we decided to take to their patio to shoot. Being so high up gave us a backdrop mixed with sky and greenery so we opted out of our usual backdrop set up. The patio was either covered in shade or exposed to high noon sunlight so we (obviously) opted to shoot in the shade. As we tested we found that fully natural light photos were too flat so we added in some soft fill light to brighten people’s faces up.

PS. Staff are asked to select an adjective that best describes themselves which we later add in post, in English & French.

Studio Test with Eunice

WE HAD A LAST MINUTE CANCELLATION FOR OUR STUDIO MARATHON AND WE DIDN’T WANT TO WASTE OUR TIME SO WE INVITED EUNICE TO COME HANG OUT AND SHOOT

It feels like it’s been forever since we’ve shot a creative but boy did it feel good for our soul! Eunice just happened to be available with only about 12hrs notice and for that we’re forever thankful :’), but on top of being the greatest she rocked it in front of the camera and brought some killer looks to shoot in!

We didn’t really have time to put together a proper moodboard so we mostly worked off of our memory of the studio from the last time we were there and then made some adjustments based off of whatever new things were around when we arrived. One of the fun parts about being a team is that we get to work off of each other; when I need a second to figure out what to do/how to do it, Ethan can shoot his set up and when I’m ready then we can rotate. Or if I’m doing something that Ethan likes but he wants to shoot in a completely different way, he can jump in and together we can build from there.

Something that’s easier said than done for us is making time for personal shoots, whether it’s a full studio day with a moodboard, concept, and team, or a one-on-one just shooting the shit. After shooting this it definitely seems like something we’ll keep on the top of our list going forward because we definitely can’t wait to do this again!
